Troopers in Perry Township pulled over a southbound Dodge Ram 1500 on Pottsville Pike just before midnight on Friday, Feb. 10 for multiple traffic violations, they said in a statement.

During the stop, a 34-year-old woman in the car "discreetly alerted troopers to possible criminal activity" and was asked to step out of the vehicle, state police wrote.

The driver of the truck, described as a white man between 45 and 50, took off "at a high rate of speed" and was last seen on Birch Hill Road, authorities said. Investigators later determined that he'd given them a fake identification, they added.

Police say the 34-year-old woman had been kidnapped and was reported missing to troopers in Wilkes-Barre earlier on Friday.

The truck is described as a maroon Dodge Ram 1500 with an Ohio license plate numbered PLM3548. The matter remains under investigation, state police said.
